British superyacht design dominated the recent 2014 ISS Design Awards, which took place on October 29 during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. UK designers were involved in 5 of the 6 categories and Superyacht UK member, Redman Whiteley Dixon (RWD), has been honoured with two prizes for luxury motor yacht Como.
Hosted by the International Superyacht Society (ISS), these awards recognise individual companies for their expertise, leadership and dedication to raising the bar when it comes to the design and build of large yachts. Based entirely on peer-reviewed nominations from the yacht industry’s leading builders and designers these are highly acclaimed awards.
Winners are announced at the ISS’s annual Award Gala, an event which has grown accustomed to British excellence over previous years. This year it was held at the Broward Centre for the Performing Arts and received over 300 of the industry’s leading figures. All were there to witness RWD win the ‘Best Power’ in the 40-65m category and the ‘Best Interior’ across all categories for the luxury yacht Como.
Toby Ecuyer of RWD comments: “We were honoured to win the Award for the ‘Best Interior’ at this year’s ISS Design Awards ceremony in Fort Lauderdale. Redman Whiteley Dixon is thrilled to be involved with the creation of this superb yacht and is delighted to have worked with the owner, on this, his sixth yacht interior, designed by RWD. It is great to be recognised for all our work at such a prestigious event.”
As well as the ISS Design Awards, the Gala saw leading businesses win Awards of Distinction and Leadership Awards. These cover other aspects of maintaining and operating large yachts. Again, British success prevailed when John Percival, of John Percival Marine Associates (JPMA), was awarded posthumously the 2014’s Business Person of the Year. The Award was collected on behalf of JPMA’s Managing Director, Anna Percival Harris, by Roger Towner of the MCA.
Tom Chant, International Development Manager of Superyacht UK remarks: “Once again the thriving UK design industry has dominated these Awards. The strength of the design sector combined with world-class builders and supply chain make the UK a one stop shop when owners, captains and project managers think of yachting.”
