Royal Huisman has announced that Huisfit, the dedicated department for refit, repair and renewal has received three commissions from sailing yachts WISP, YONDER and FOFTEIN to take the total of superyachts at the facility to seven over the winter season.
Sailing yachts EOS and ATHENA were booked in for extensive refits last year and these two towering superyachts have now arrived in Holland to become guests of the shipyard.
The work on the main generators and engines of ATHENA is nearly complete and half the teak deck has been removed. A week ago she was moved into a dry dock and placed into a shed for maintenance over the winter season.
Meanwhile, the Rondal rigs installed aboard sailing yacht EOS have been removed for inspection and a repaint, following which she will be moved indoors for maintenance to proceed.
The regatta-loving sailing yacht SPIIP from naval architects Frers has also returned home for upgrades and service work to electrics and electronic systems.
The 1913 classic Herreshoff sailing yacht VAGRANT has also been entrusted to Huisfit for a complete rebuild, her Owner specifically requesting the utmost care and respect for her appearance inside and out while upgrading her with the most advanced materials and board systems to ensure safe and efficient operations.
The deckhouses, superstructures and skylights have been removed and updated by the shipyard, with an all-new teak deck currently being installed.
After being fully stripped, S/Y VAGRANT had her steel hull sandblasted and each individual rivet was welded to avoid leakage and potential deformation. The majority of the classic interiors furnishings and fittings were restored by the Huisfit joinery team as new crew accommodation was also built.
New main engines, generators and Huisman-engineered board systems are almost complete for installation in the technical spaces beneath the accommodation.
S/Y VAGRANT will be relaunched in Spring 2019 followed by sea trials and testing of her new in-mast-furling aluminium Rondal masts.
