Derecktor Florida shipyard is seeing one of its busiest summers this year, following on from a very productive first quarter of the year. Usually, summer is a quite season with luxury super yachts moving to other locations in the world, such as the popular Mediterranean yacht charter destinations. 2015 seems to be different to previous years at Derecktor with a combination of long term projects carrying over from the first and second quarters, numerous refit projects as well as several vessels choosing to remain in the USA.
Major refits are being done on such important yacht as the motor yacht DOROTHEA 3 of 147 feet, 137-foot motor yacht TRANQUILITY, Feadship superyacht MINDERELLA, BG yacht (ex Charade) and MIRAGE. Zero speed stabilisers will be fitted to the 171′ motor yacht AMANTI and MITSEAAH has running gear and rudder repairs done.
CARSON is at the yard for the completion of an in-water commissioning, and LIBRA III, CRACKER BAY, ATOMIC and CHEVY TOY are under the shed undergoing a variety of projects. LEGEND, LAZY Z and AUDACIA both recently left the yard at the conclusion of extensive refit periods.
Luxury charter yachts to arrive at the shipyard in the upcoming weeks include POLLY for mechanical maintenance and upgrades, and NORTHERN LIGHTS for underwater maintenance.
Charter Yacht LAZY Z Major Refit Completed at Derecktor Florida
In addition to the other projects, Derecktor has also successfully completed a lengthy refit aboard the 164-foot Oceanco motor yacht LAZY Z. The yacht left the yard in mid-June and is now enjoying her yacht charter season in the Western Mediterranean.
Works on LAZY Z incorporated opening the hull to permit the removal of main engines and the installation of two new MTU 16V2000s. The entire exterior of the vessel was painted by Chi Yacht Refinishing, following an extensive remodelling of her sun deck.
Interior of LAZY Z was also refitted, with the main saloon stair-well reconfiguration amongst other works.
Other Jobs in Progress at Derecktor NY
The 113-foot INDEPENDENCE has undergone a significant transformation following the structural work for a new swim platform. Derecktor New York have designed and produced a 6 foot long hydraulic beach platform, which operates from 4 feet below the waterline to just above the water. This provides a deck flexible in height. It can also be used to lift the small RIB tender and stow it while cruising. The yard also installed a glass fish-viewing window that will allow the Owner’s children to feed the fish and watch them swim below the platform. New removable polished stainless tell staple rails offer safety and upgrade the classic styling of this beautiful Burger yacht. She was also given a Flag Blue AwlGrip paint job, brining her back into a top condition.
The 85-foot Horizon motor yacht Helm’s Away had some paint touch ups and her name changed, following a purchase by her new Owner. This project is somewhat more complicated after previous failed attempts by others to colour match the white paint. Derecktor NY have completed the project to the Owner’s and Captain’s satisfaction.
