This year marks the landmark 35th anniversary of the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes – the International Cannes Boat Show. The event has officially started today and will last untill 16th September, taking place on the fabulous Bay of Cannes, famous for glitz, glamour as well as international premieres.
Arguably the most prestigious event on the yachting calendar, the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes is Europe’s leading in-water boat show and the first international show on the boat show calendar. Spread over the Vieux Port and the Port Pierre Canto, the show will offer close to 500 boats on display, built by the leading luxury shipyards.
Le Vieux Port will showcase inspiring new models and products over the six day event, with a mix of motor boats and sailing boats ranging from 10 to 61 metres on the water, and parts manufacturers and service companies positioned on the land.
Worldwide-premieres
The Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes is well-known to be an international rendez-vous of worldwide premieres. This year will be no exception, with the show hosting more than 150 new model launches of all sizes which will be presented to boat enthusiasts, amongst them; the 1st Couch 5000 Fly motor yacht La Pellegrina, Azimut 55S, luxury yacht WallyAce, the Moonen 82 Alu superyacht My Way, MCY 70 yacht, Pershing 82 superyacht, Catana 55, the Canados 120 luxury yacht Far Away and the Sunreef 82 sailing yacht Houbara.
Record Boat
The Cannes Boat Show continues to push the boundaries in the size of yachts it presents. For the first time in its history, the Festival will welcome a boat over 60m, the magnificent 61m Benetti megayacht ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. Owned by renowned James Bond fan and highly experienced yachtsman, Mr. John Staluppi, ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ has been built to the highest standards will be presented at the Cannes Boat Show by her Italian builder, Benetti Yachts.
2012; a year of celebrations
In 2012, not only will the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes celebrates its 35th anniversary with a private party but some exhibitors will also be marking important landmark years too. Riva will celebrate its 170 year birthday, Fenwick 150 years, Yanmar 100 years, Cranchi, Rodriguez Group, Locasail and Yachting Partners all mark 40 years and it is the30th anniversary of the Jeanneau Cap Camarat range, amongst others.
Port Pierre Canto
The world’s most important brokers will gather at the “Espace Brokerage & Charter” located in the Port Pierre Canto displaying superyachts ranging from 22 to 50 metres.
New Additions and Improvements
This year, the Quai Max Laubeuf has been renovated with a fully air conditioned tent, which will host specialist parts manufacturers, insurance companies, etc. ensuring the needs of the sailing world are catered for, and an extension, which will house vessels between 10 and 20 metres. 2012 will also see the largest gathering in Europe of inhabitable multihulled craft, both sail and motor, ranging from 10 to 30 metres at the Esplanade de la Pantiero.
Espace Riviera
Espace Riviera will house services and equipment for increasingly sophisticated boats, including interior installations; luxury yacht builders; equipment and technologies; service companies: financing and insurances; luxury yacht tenders, and tourism as Regione Puglia and ADEC Corsica and marinas as Marina Bizerte and La Balise Marina on Mauritius Island.
New Partnerships
2012 brings exciting brand partnerships and collaborations for Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes. Petrossian, the world’s leading buyer and importer of Russian caviar, will create a ‘floating island’ Caviar House in the Vieux Port serving as seafood and caviar restaurant for lunch and dinner. A partnership has also been formed with the Cannes based Patisserie Intuitions and Jérôme de Oliveira who was named World Pastry Champion at the young age of 23.
