As featured on CharterWorld here, the outstanding 73m Silver Yachts motor yacht Dragonfly has been deployed under Owner’s instructions to Vanuatu, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam. Captain Mike Gregory of mega yacht Dragonfly has commented on the relief efforts in the region.
“After six days on the ground working in the more remote areas of Vanuatu, we have been shocked daily by the level of damage and destruction that Cyclone Pam has caused. We have found villages that are still waiting for aid nearly two weeks after the storm and are down to their last days of food stocks. Many of these villages have no fresh water source.
“I am incredibly proud of what the team onboard have achieved in responding to the emergency here in Vanuatu and we are all glad that we have been able to give something back to those that were so hospitable to us.
Our current mission statistics are now:
■ Discharged and staged over 50,000 litres (13,000 gallons) of fresh water in 10 villages.
■ Attended to over 220 casualties/patients
■ Facilitated 3 medical evacuations
■ Cleared numerous helicopter Landing Zones for ongoing support
■ Cleared access roads and removed fallen trees from buildings
■ Delivered and/or erected shelter in multiple villages
Our efforts will continue into the weekend and we hope to reach 80,000 litres of water.”
Captain Mike Gregory encourages all who can to donate to one of the many charities aiding the relief efforts.
