On June 7th, the Global 103 cockpit motor yacht by Cheoy Lee, yard number 4915, was loaded onto the mulit-purpose heavy lift ship BBC Carolina. The 130m long carrier will steam at 14 knots across the Pacific to the port of discharge, Port Everglades in Florida.
The Cheoy Lee Global 103’ motor yacht (hull number 4915) is powered by a pair of Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels that drive the yacht to a top speed of 27 knots. The easily driven hull designed by Mike Burvenich is light yet exceptionally strong thanks to structural engineering by SP High Modulus and resin infusion moulding of the hull, superstructure, internal and external decks, right down to more minor moulded components as well. With a fuel capacity in excess of 5000 gallons, the Global 103 yacht can be throttled back to offer range figures to equal those of a long range cruiser; around 3000 nautical miles at 10 knots. The yacht provides exceptional all round performance.
AC electrical power comes from a pair of 55kW Kohler generators, an upgrade from the standard 40kW units to ensure sufficient power to run additional air-conditioning capacity providing cool air to exterior decks.
The configuration of the arrangement with two master staterooms suits the joint owners well. Both master staterooms are forward, one on main deck level with large hull side windows, the other on the lower deck, full beam, with oversized hull side ports. Both feature exceptionally large heads, clad in marble to the owners’ individual selection. At 6’-7” tall, the ample headroom, full sized appliances, beds, passage ways and doors that are a standout feature on all Cheoy Lee Yachts, are very much appreciated by the owner. Further aft are the two VIP staterooms, which in the standard configuration each feature a queen sized berth, dresser and ensuite head. On 4915, the owners opted to convert one of the two queen berths into twin, providing more flexibility for their guests. The crew quarters aft include two staterooms, two fully appointed heads, and a lounge for up to four crew.
Control is from a single enclosed bridge on the upper deck. The pilothouse is ahead of a comfortable sky lounge that opens out into the aft sundeck. The sundeck is designed for maximum entertainment, including a bar, Spa Pool, barbeque and ample comfortable seating.
The 150 square foot cockpit of the Global 103 is equipped to match any serious sport fisherman, with tackle centre, live bait well and ice machines supplying the two large cockpit fish boxes. A custom fighting chair will be installed after the yacht arrives in the USA. Cockpit bollards were strengthened to tow a 32’ tender, although a more modestly sized 17’ RIB is comfortably housed on the fly bridge, lifted by a 2200lb Nautical Structures davit.
