Following the success of the Cheoy Lee Bravo Series designed by Mike Burvenich, the next logical step was to develop a larger series of yachts based on the success of the Bravo series. Burvenich working closely with Marty Isenberg of Cheoy Lee looked at what the typical owner was looking for in the larger yacht series. From these discussions the Cheoy Lee Global Series was born. It was determined that the latest trend is for smaller more efficient yachts. The most popular size range was determined to be from 100 to 145 feet. Four initial models were developed; the Global 103, Global 118, Global 130, and Global 145 motor yacht.
Burvenich and Isenberg determined that the majority of the potential owners for this series of yachts were long time yachting enthusiasts who prefer traditional styling. The look was one that had a more traditional look that would be timeless with a bit of contemporary flair to make it look like a new yacht. Dealing with experienced yachtsmen it was very important that the Global series was crew friendly. The Global series was designed with the crew in mind making the boat extremely easy to operate and maintain compared to other yachts in this size range.
Efficiency is very important in today market. On the Global series a large amount of effort was used to make these yachts as efficient as possible for their intended uses. Burvenich decided to use a semi-displacement hull for the Global series. Most clients who expressed interest in the Global series like to have the ability to go faster if the weather or time constraints dictate, even if they typically cruise at slower speeds.
Burvenich designed the hull so that even at speed there is little or none of the slamming common to many semi-displacements, hard-chined hulls. The yacht will be designed and built to Class and as an option can be MCA-compliant. Built with Cheoy Lee’s signature construction methods, the Global series will be made of resininfused composite utilizing foam core to reduce weight in order to reduce fuel consumption and increase performance. All tanks are composite and integral to the hull, essentially forming a double bottom along most of the yacht’s length for additional safety.
The tanks are placed low in the boat to lower the vertical center of gravity, which greatly improves stability. Another unique fact about the Cheoy Lee Global Series is that the builder, naval architect and interior designer were all involved in the project from the beginning, forming a cohesive team with one goal in mind.
Every Global is available with a cockpit and enclosed pilothouse.
