The Palumbo Shipyard has signed a contract for the construction of a 40m yacht, the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid superyacht. The Shipyard is also building another 60m superyacht called the Columbus Classic 200’. Born to meld together the love and passion for the together with the respect of marine environment, the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid yacht was designed to reduce at maximum pollution and fuel consumption.
M/Y Columbus 130’ Hybrid will measure 40 meters in length and 8.20 meters a beam, stretching over three decks with very impressive internal volumes. She will be built under RINA classification in compliance with MCA. Palumbo entrusted Hydro Tec Naval Architecture with the naval architecture of the on Columbus 130 Sport Hybrid with the Interior Design by Hot Lab.
The windows of the main saloon are particularly large allowing for plenty of natural light. It also enables the Owner and the guests to feel close and connected to the sea thanks to two large sliding windows/doors and opening bulwarks.
The yacht will feature three guest cabins plus the Owner suite for a total of 8 guests plus 1 and 3 crew cabins plus one captain cabin.
The interior shows a combination of “warm” materials with soft colours avoiding any strong contrast. Marbles such as Breccia Sarda and Emperador Dark will be matched together with Teak, Sicomoro wood and grey durmast. Leather, polished stainless steel and precious fabrics will complete the mood board. The yacht will have several “convertible” areas that can be changed according the number of the guests on board.
A spectacular flybridge with an extraordinary autonomy and modern exterior styling are the main characteristics of this new fabulous Columbus130’ Hybrid yacht.
The Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid motor yacht is really an innovative concept that melds new lines and high technology together with the respect for the marine environment. It is in fact very well known how the respect for the marine environment is important for Palumbo, who received the RINA Green Star Plus award for motor yacht Prima by the Prince Albert II at the presence of his guest His Majesty the King of Spain.
The Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid boat will comply to the latest IMO MARPOL regulations and will be equipped with a bilge water separator even if not requested by class. The most environmental friendly feature is the hybrid system itself. This permits to have a slow navigation with Main Engines turned off and just two generators running. It’s well known that Generators have a low impact on environment due to the fact that their engines run at fixed rpm thus reducing NOx and SOx emission.
Both the hull with a semi-displacement type, and the superstructure are in aluminum, thought to reduce the weight and the consumption. The yacht also has an optional diesel electric hybrid propulsion system, constructed with the intention of having a minimal impact on the environment with a comfortable cruising range of 5,000 nm.
The Hybrid system that will be used on Columbus 130 Sport Hybrid consists basically of two electric engines connected to the gear box. This allows to have electrical navigation for a maximum speed of 7.5 kn getting power from Generators, and to generate electrical energy while in navigation on Main Engines.
The Hybrid system can be useful for quiet night navigation because being electrical, the engines are very silent. The Electric Engines can also be very useful during manoeuvring in port even while having the Main Diesel Engines turned off. Another very important feature is the power generation during navigation, enabling low maintenance costs on Diesel Generators and fuel consumption.
Notwithstanding the relatively small size of the boat, very large internal volumes (Internal Volume is 1400 m3 abt.) along with some special features, such as a beach club on the stern, will give the perception that you are on board a much bigger yacht. What the Shipyard and the Owner tried to reach is a solution able to create a boat that would remain a boat allowing the Owner and the crew to feel the real sensation of the sea and of its beauty.
Palumbo, as a result of the great experience with the superyacht Prima, will build these yachts with its same young team. The passion for the sea and for the boats in general is the leit motiv that ties the entire team together.
Each detail of the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid yacht has been carefully studied by the Shipyard together with the Owner with the aim to realize a yacht with an elegant and refined style.
The construction of Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid superyacht started some months ago and the 60m Columbus Classic 200’ yacht is in a more advanced phase with her hull almost completed.
