Dutch builder, Van der Valk Shipyard, has unveiled a concept for a new 38-metre explorer yacht from the Continental Five range, developed in collaboration with Guido de Groot. This impressive range is composed of a great variety of exterior designs, ranging from futuristic to classic.
“We work both directly for shipyards and private clients,” commented De Groot on their excellent partnership with Van der Valk Shipyard. “Van der Valk has been around for more than half a century and it has been a pleasure to work with them over the past three years as they have increased their presence in the superyacht sector. The yard is easy to communicate with and highly professional. We have designed a number of completely new models and three yachts have already been successfully delivered. The Continental Five is the largest design to be unveiled to date and we are especially proud of the flexible layout possibilities of this 38-metre yacht.”
Spanning over three decks, the Continental Five offers serious interior and exterior space, and provides many different layout possibilities. The standard arrangement sun deck hosts a good-sized wet bar, large L-shaped settee and a spacious sunbed. The bridge deck features a large outside lounge deck, a pilothouse, the captain’s office, a sky lounge with pantry and kitchenette, as well as a social area on the aft deck which is ideal as an alfresco lounge or dining space.
The main deck aft can easily host water toys and tender or a helipad or swimming pool. The generous main saloon has floor-to-ceiling doors to starboard and port that allow fantastic views of the surroundings. The forward location of the master suite also provides beautiful vistas.
The lower deck aft provides a beach club with sauna, a hydraulically operated swimming platform, a day head and a shower. There is also a VIP suite, three guest cabins, as well as a crew area with a spacious crew mess and laundry, two crew cabins with twin berths and a double captain’s cabin.
The overall design of the Continental Five features a distinctly masculine character, despite plenty of choices available in terms of her exterior profile lines. Sporting a round-bilge hull, the vessel can be a full displacement version with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure or an all-aluminium fast-displacement version.
Providing an excellent performance in even the toughest weather conditions, the concept is specifically designed with a significant fuel capacity, and will be easily capable of transatlantic passages. The vessel will be run by twin powerful CAT C18 ACERT diesel engines.
