Lighting control specialist, Lumotics, is continuing to cement its status as the go-to company for superyachts looking to resolve quickly control issues that complex LED lighting systems can often present. Most recently, the craft concerned was a 60m yacht support vessel, where Lumotics has successfully completed an existing installation, comprising wiring – a situation that always presents challenges.
Like most of its class, the 60m mega yacht support vessel already contained a wide variety of sophisticated leisure facilities including a full discothèque, spa, guest saloon and guest cabins. Lumotics was tasked to design and install a light control system that would manage a series of lighting arrangements and provide control from anywhere on board via both a wireless tablet and a PC app.
In the event the entire installation took just two days, largely due to the universal compatibility of the Lumotics units which dramatically reduces the time needed for commissioning.
On arrival of the superyacht support vessel in Italy, the Lumotics team first created a bespoke connection box to ensure compatibility with the existing wiring and then completed the installation of the light fittings – ten 40W RGB floodlight fittings by Savage Marine – plus a wireless router. They then installed the bespoke control systems that ensure smooth operations, easy control and real-time fault monitoring. These included a market-leading Lumotics Mood Magic universal 20-output lighting controller and driver, and a Lumotics Sound 2 Light unit. This translates audio frequencies to the Mood Magic unit, creating a light show in synchronisation with the music.
The entire installation is controlled by a Beijer Electronics touchscreen panel with custom software by Lumotics. This provides no-nonsense control (including the ability to set a wide range of alternative lighting schemes and moods) and monitoring of the entire system, including the LED strings and the Sound 2 Light unit. As an added touch it was also programmed to have a screensaver featuring images of the yacht and a lock-screen to deny unauthorised control.
The installation was exceptionally quick and, following all the off-site preparation, went without a hitch. The captain and crew appreciated the rapid response and the fact that the control system required minimal training.
“Our ability to create custom solutions in a matter of days together with a continually expanding product range of control and driver units that are compatible with most third-party equipment is proving to be a successful formula,” said Lumotics’ Pidge Scales. “The order book is currently in excellent shape.”
