The Wider flagship superyacht CECILIA was the first Wider 165 model and has won multiple awards from RINA, scoring top marks in the Comfort Class and Green Plus category. Now Videoworks, the company behind her lighting Audio-Visual entertainment systems and cyber-security, has provided details on the technologies installed.
The brief called for high customisation and ease of use with the Audio-Visual, domotics, entertainment, lighting and IT systems, with the first two areas being the most requested by Owners and guests: Crisp images for cinema and sports as well as high fidelity in cinema and bedroom speakers as well as for parties both inside and out are top priorities, as is effortless use of blinds, lighting and air conditioning at the touch of a button.
Centralised rack, optimised space
One of the greatest challenges was to install top quality audio and sound equipment while ensuring the maximum of interior space for guest socialisation. A centralised rack system was decided upon, which has been created featuring Creston processors for the AV systems and tested at the Videoworks facilities before being installed. The guest cabins also receive this benefit, and the Owner’s hallway, in particular, has built-in Sonance speakers and a 5.1 surround system.
As a consequence of using a centralised rack, there is greater room in each guest area and ensures that the crew do not have to interrupt guests while performing maintenance: The TV, loudspeakers, AUX HDMI sockets, control mini iPads and recharging docks are the only local elements.
There is a Kaleidescape server for films and music, and as superyachts are increasingly becoming a pace to work as well as unwind, a video-conference system in the main hall and Owner’s office is available.
Externally, durable James Loudspeaker marine-grade speakers have been installed for excellent ongoing performance throughout their lifetime.
Cyber-security
As cyber-attacks become more sophisticated, luxury yacht owners are waking up to how crucial cybersecurity is to the continued functioning of onboard systems. Videoworks has installed the all-in-one firewall, antivirus and bandwidth management system Kerio Control to protect the onboard server with an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that monitors all incoming and outgoing communications.
Administrators have to power to deny or limit access to internet sites, services and applications to prevent data theft and protect user identities. A Load Balancing function guarantees high-speed transmission for the most important data and an optimised internet connection to distribute traffic via multiple links.
Custom lighting design and engineering
Bespoke lighting design was considered essential to give the Owners the ambience they wanted and to further enhance the beautiful configuration of each room. One of the unique solutions was to integrate different lenses into the ceiling panels to fully illuminate everywhere within the room. Day, night and soft lighting settings are available to suit the time of day and the occasion.
The exteriors offered a different challenge, and Videoworks made use of elliptical lenses on the helipad platform and beneath the sundeck glass panels a system of lights illuminates the floor and makes M/Y CECILIA recognisable when docked at night.
Videoworks has designed onboard systems for a number of high profile yachts since the company’s inception 20 years ago and will continue to be a valued contributor to the superyacht industry.
