Damen and Amels are adding to their successful line of explorer yachts with a new 55m/183ft model, the SeaXplorer 55, announced at the Monaco Yacht Show. The ‘go anywhere’ expedition yacht is designed for 30 days of complete autonomy in luxury, with IMO Polar Code Compliance for adventures in the Arctic and Antarctic.
“With a SeaXplorer 75 and a SeaXplorer 65 from our range already sold and now under construction, this new design benefits from our dedicated SeaXplorer team’s experience and the input from our clients and partners.” Commercial director Rose Damen commented. “The SeaXplorer 55 will be at home just as much in the South of France as it is in South Georgia Island.”
The SeaXplorer range was developed in conjunction with EYOS Expeditions and Azure Yacht Design, who created her exterior appearance. The SeaXplorer 55 is designed to allow guests up-close experiences with the surroundings and local wildlife and to this end the living spaces are comprised of an observation lounge, an outdoor bow point observation deck, a skylounge that opens up to the exterior and a crow’s nest above the wheelhouse.
On the main deck aft there is an Expedition Centre that easily handles serious expedition operations and which can be tailored to specific pursuits, such as Scuba diving or skiing. The helideck is suitable for helicopters with a maximum take-off weight of 4,000 kg and can be used while underway, day or night. In addition, the 12-metre slipway allows for very large tenders without the need for towing, saving on time for sending out multi-day expedition moats and taking journeys up water ways and closer to icebergs.
For rest and recuperation, up to 12 guests will find comfortable accommodation across 6 staterooms. The layout also provides for a crew of 17 plus additional staff for expeditions or extra services such as kitesurf training while on board.
Product Director Mark Vermeulen commented: “The SeaXplorer 55 is a luxury yacht with real go-anywhere, do-anything expedition pedigree. It has the seakeeping performance and Ice Class capability, but we also offer lots of options for our clients – from full fairing and custom interiors to tailor-made configurations for their expedition equipment.”
