After the first SeaXplorer yacht was commissioned in 2016, Damen has announced the sale of a second SeaXplorer, due for delivery in 2020.
Lauded as ‘the world’s first private expedition yacht built to comply with demanding new environmental and safety rules for polar journeys’, the SeaXplorer range is designed to meet the new mandatory Polar Code that came into effect in 2017 and can cruise in polar and tropical waters.
Working in conjunction with Amels to a design by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture, the SeaXplorer 75 has an aft deck capable of holding two helicopters and a hangar below deck for storage and on board refuelling.
Among her water toys will be jet skis and Scuba diving gear held in the dedicated dive centre, ideally situated beside the swim platform.
The Polar Class SeaXplorer is also designed with:
- a submersible hangar
- a wellness centre
- a sundeck Jacuzzi
- a high bridge for extended visibility
- heavy ice hull reinforcement up to Polar Class 6
- a propulsion train with Ice Class reinforcement
- a zero discharge waste management system
The interior will be customised to the owner’s requirements and the accommodation will provide for up to 12 guests, 25 crew and support staff.
Commercial Director Rose Damen commented on the second commission: “[The owners] will be skiing and snowboarding on pristine slopes like Kamchatka and submersible diving and sports fishing in Papua New Guinea and the Galápagos Islands. They will be in places with no supporting infrastructure, no roads and no heliports within range. So we designed the SeaXplorer 75 to carry out such complex operations with the highest level of safety, redundancy and autonomy.”
The first SeaXplorer yacht is due for launch and delivery in 2019.
