Every day we publish articles that talk about wonderful and unique luxury yachts from around the globe, describing some of them in the smallest of details, yet very seldom do we talk about the art that has been chosen to give that special touch and personal feel to the vessels, that many times represent the second home to the Owners. A wonderful art will make even the most discern charter guests feel right at home. We are not going to talk about any private or charter yacht in particular, but an artist that captures the beauty of the sea and the emotions of sailing. David Schor is an artist who has created thousands of paintings for clients from around the world, with a variety that only few artists can produce.
David Schor has created a number of beautiful paintings depicting sailing or motor yachts, as well as original portraits of yacht Owner’s, Captains and their families. In addition he has been commissioned by such seagoing organisations as the Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.
David Schor’s painting of ‘Sailing and all things Nautical’ captures the emotion of sailing in a manner unique to the artist. He and his wife, Olga, lived with their son on their sailboat, The Second Wind, after the Hurricane Andrew destroyed their Miami home and previous sailboat in 1993.
The artist and his wife spend majority of their time travelling around Europe and throughout the USA. Most of the time David works ‘on-location’, creating fabulous work for clients from varied places, such as Italy, France, Norway, England, Germany and Australia.
His extensive list of clients is the testament to the work that only David is able to bring to any home, organisation or a superyacht interior. He captures the needs of his clients, then he goes to work until he is satisfied that he has been able to capture the essence of the subject.
His work may be found in many prestigious homes and organisations worldwide, public places as well as on luxury yachts, magazines, books, newspaper articles and on television.
David’s latest recognition is found on the cover of the magazine titled ‘Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery’. His subject, Jeremiah, an exotic bird, is perched on a branch and surrounded by such beautiful colours as only David can create. Animals, people, landscapes, families at play or combination of all, are David’s specialities.
Approximately five years ago, he was commissioned to create a painting of Castello De Vachan to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the League of Nations. A copy of the painting now hangs in the Castello de Vachan in San Remo, Italy (The original being in London at the client’s home).
Many of the USA’s YMCA’s have copies of the Four Values, original paintings that David was commissioned to create for the national YMCA of the USA. Each painting depicts a value by telling a story . The originals are the property of the YMCA and were published as Limited Editions.
Rotary International, in a similar fashion, commissioned the artist to create stories with his brush, and so he also made it possible for Rotarians around the world to see their valuable work through Limited Editions of the paintings. The Rotary International’s Four Values are now the property of this well known organization. These are just a few of the public works of artist David Schor.
