De Valk has become the official brokerage house representing the innovative co-ownership project known as yacht Long Tall Sally. Bringing together some of the top names in superyacht design and building, construction of the first of these 33-metre explorer sailing ketches will start later this year. In addition to offering a unique opportunity for fractional ownership, the yacht will sail a pre-set route to a wide range of adventurous destinations.
The sailing yacht Long Tall Sally project involves some very prestigious names and offers a different approach to any other partial ownership programme. Designed by Gerard Dykstra and based on the well known Bestevaer series of performance cruisers, the hull of the first yacht (Long Tall Sally) will be built by Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw. This leading Dutch hull builder has achieved international fame for its work on the new generation of J Class yachts, as has the yard that will finish Long Tall Sally, Claasen Jachtbouw. In addition to this premium Dutch construction, London-based designers Rhoades Young are responsible for the general interior design.
“The formidable team of companies behind this project is one of the reasons we are so sure of its success,” says Derk Jan Rolff from De Valk International. “This will be a sturdy, no-nonsense yacht designed for long voyages. The fully outfitted accommodation will ensure a comfortable stay onboard, while the fractional ownership programme with full yacht management substantially reduces the purchase price and running costs. Potential co-owners can buy a part share in Long Tall Sally or one of the later vessels, or of course buy all the shares and have complete ownership.”
Another reason why the Long Tall Sally project is causing such a stir is that the aluminium ketches will explore places well off the beaten track, including the Kamchatka Peninsula, Antarctica, Greenland, the Northwest Passage, Easter Island, Spitsbergen and the Galápagos Islands. A modern underwater body and easy to handle sail plan ensure safe and speedy passage making while a retractable keel allows trips up river and into shallow bays.
“This pre-set year round itinerary will allow the co-owners to hop on and off where and when it suits them best,” adds Derk Jan Rolff. “The interior will offer all modern creature comforts to ensure people feel safe and snug. Based on the premise that owners and passengers will spend one month or more on board, a new concept has been introduced in the aft section, accommodating owners and passengers in four ensuite cabins. These can be joined to form two identical VIP suites, allowing onboard privacy for families.”
