Italian engineering company iSpace2O has revealed an innovative water toy named the DeepSeaker DS1 capable of planing at speed above the waves as well as use as a submersible.
As a multipurpose craft capable of seating one captain and three passengers on long-distance journeys above or below the waterline, the DeepSeaker DS1 has applications in the tourism, leisure, search & rescue and environmental research industries.
This design concept by Pilotfish Gmbh takes inspiration from the aerial and automotive vessels: The large canopy provides guests with panoramic views of the surroundings and a lightweight double hull system of a composite outer shell and inner carbon fibre body ensures passenger safety by guaranteeing pressure resistance and elasticity in the event of any kind of collision.
The DeepSeaker DS1 is capable of diving 40-50 metres (131ft-164 feet) using an inflatable ballast tank to create neutral ballast. The DS1 also comes equipped with an innovative patented breathing system from Like a Fish Tech that draws oxygen directly from the surrounding water through a gill-like system by means of a special pump for a near-endless air supply that is cleaned by a CO2 scrubber.
The propulsion is 100% green using two Thor 40kW electric high torque marine motors that were specially made by Huracan Power. They are directly connected to custom-built hydro jet pumps that also provide for steering. On board, there is a digital dashboard, iPad connectors, Go Pro cameras and hydrophones for listening in to marine mammals.
The size of the DeepSeaker DS1 means that it can be stored in all large tender garages aboard luxury yachts and/or launched from support vessels. Owners can even personalise each vessel with a unique colour scheme or decals to match the mothership.
