Discovery Yachts has announced plans to expand production facilities at its base in Harbour Close, Marchwood, taking over the remaining units on the site. The expansion, which will take place in February this year, will allow the company to build the award-winning Discovery 50 Catamaran alongside its monohull models, the Discovery 55 and Discovery 67.
The announcement follows another successful year for Discovery Yachts with the significant sales across the Discovery fleet and the company’s yachts achieving high acclaim at a number of international yacht shows. The Discovery 50 Catamaran received Discovery 50 Catamaran received two top US awards, the Best Cruising Multihull and Best Accommodation Awards after the Annapolis Boat Show in USA and Boat of the Year’s Best Catamaran and Best Import Boat (to the USA).
Nigel Stuart, Managing Director of Discovery Yachts commented, “The company already has full ownership of four large units at Harbour Close, so with the planned expansion we will now have a fully integrated production facility, with our specialist joinery and laminating departments expanding into the new space.
This expansion is an important landmark for Discovery Yachts and shows how significantly the company has grown since its creation. Building all three models on one site will be of great benefit, increasing production and allowing for greater flexibility within the Discovery team.”
Discovery Yachts enters 2011 with a healthy sales book going into 2012. The additional space provided by this expansion will allow it to grow its work force of highly skilled craftsmen to meet the demand for its superb ocean going, luxury yachts.
