Dixon Yacht Design is naturally pleased with the success of its design for sailing yacht Antares III, which has won the prestigious International Superyacht Society Award in the ‘Best Sailing Yacht in the 24m to 40m’ category. Antares III superyacht had already won the company ‘Best Sailing Yacht in the 30 to 40 metre range’ at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards, held in May.
“To have two separate, highly respected, and independent judging panels select Antares against some excellent competition is very gratifying” says Bill Dixon. “Antares III is actually the third yacht we have designed for her owner and I know he will be just as delighted with this second award as we are”.
Antares III wins World Superyacht Award
Luxury yacht Antares III, designed by Dixon Yacht Design, has won the coveted title of ‘Best Sailing Yacht’, in the 30 to 40 metre size range at the World Superyacht Awards 2012. She was deemed a ‘clear winner’ by the judges offering ‘everything that made cruising a pleasure for her owner’, a real commendation for the skill of those involved.
The Antares III yacht, whose naval architecture and exterior styling where the work of the Dixon team, was built in New Zealand by Yachting Developments with interior styling by Rhodes Young.
Bill Dixon is particularly pleased with this award as the experienced and qualified judges have seen beyond what some might consider a relatively conservative profile and focused on the many factors that define a well-executed vessel.
The Antares III yacht’s owner was looking for a modern classic and a vessel which would be capable of extended offshore ‘exploration’ cruising and making fast passage times in considerable comfort.
The designers have translated these requirements into a yacht which has a beautifully balanced hull form and a long waterline length. To satisfy the fast cruising demand superyacht Antares III was built from composite, which provided not just a considerable weight saving compared to aluminium, but had the additional benefit of allowing the design team to exploit every square inch of interior volume with the absence of structural frames which would otherwise have been required.
First and foremost Antares III is a sailing yacht of course and, with her powerful carbon rig and rigging package, coupled with her long waterline and moderate displacement, she is certainly no slouch. Responsive and stiff, she is a sailors yacht………with more than a touch of luxury!
