Doyle Sails NZ is proud to announce more race success of its yachts, with line honours and a division victory for George Sakallaris’s sailing yacht Shockwave in the Newport Bermuda Race. Featuring a partial Doyle inventory, Hap Fauth’s luxury yacht Bella Mente placed second.
An elapsed time of 63:04:11 won luxury yacht Shockwave the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Trophy for the second time in a row, following her previous win of the Newport-Bermuda race 2012 on IRC.
Owner Sakallaris was delighted with the performance of Shockwave yacht and her Doyle sails. “I believe our Doyle Stratis mainsail is much lighter than our competitors and also the nicest mainsail I have ever seen,” he said. “Continually Robbie [Doyle], Richard [Bouzaid] and the whole Doyle team are coming up with clever and innovative sails that play a huge part in us continuing to win races against much newer boats, I am one very happy customer!”
This solid podium result from this 635-mile ocean race is continued demonstration of Doyle’s growing reputation in the performance sector, with their Doyle Stratis GPX performance sails. Developed for high-durability high-performance the innovative Stratis technology offers weight savings and performance gains over rival sails.
“We have been really pleased to see Shockwave’s strong and consistent performances and even more pleased that George and his team are so happy with the Doyle inventory,” said Richard Bouzaid, Head of Design at Doyle Sails NZ, who sailed on board Shockwave yacht for the race together with tactician Robbie Doyle. “Doyle always works closely with each yacht team to achieve a custom sail solution and to ensure optimum performance.”
