There are only two weeks remaining to submit the nominations for the 2013 edition of the eagerly awaited World Superyacht Awards. The entries for the superyacht industry’s most celebrated awards will close on 31 December, 2012.
An impressive selection of brand new sail and motor superyacht nominees, as well as a strong number of refit vessels, have already been entered for the 2013 competition.
Owners must wait until after the Shortlisting meeting in January to find out which yachts have been selected as Finalists and stand in contention to receive a coveted Neptune trophy.
In addition to the yacht categories, nominations are still open for the prestigious Voyager’s Award until 31 January. Now in its fourth edition, the Voyager’s Award recognizes a superyacht owner who has made extensive use of their yacht in long distance voyaging and exploration. Entries are invited from the owners or charterers of a yacht of over 30 metres in length that has undertaken a voyage of an unusual or exploratory nature during the two year period between 1 January, 2011 and 31 December, 2012.
In 2012, the adventuring yachtsmen deemed to have made the most extraordinary journey were the owners of the 46m motor yacht Golden Compass, who embarked open a truly epic round-the-world superyacht cruise. Beginning in the USA, they travelled through the Caribbean, South America, the Mediterranean, then on through the Red Sea and Indian Ocean, cruising the Indian coast to Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, the Malacca Straits and on through Indonesia to Papua New Guinea.
When Golden Compass superyacht completed her journey, she had logged more than 30,000 nautical miles, calling at more than 100 ports in 45 countries. Her owners visited more than 100 World Heritage sites, rented 200 cars, played golf in 20 countries and made dozens of charitable donations of cash, medical and school supplies, and gifts of food, clothing and toys to village children in developing nations across the globe.
‘Our interaction with the men, women and especially children in these remote areas has given us an understanding and appreciation for how different their lives are and the enormity of the challenges they face,’ commented Kristy, the owner of the 46m luxury yacht Golden Compass. ‘Our journey has been so rewarding that we hope this recognition will encourage more yacht owners and charter guests to explore lesser-known destinations.’
