The prominent UK luxury yacht manufacturer, Sunseeker International, is proud to report that it has been honoured with the ISO certification 14001:2004. This environmental accreditation recognizes the yard’s ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
Given after a thorough review, the certificate confirms the company’s efforts to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment and has been measured in a number of different areas, such as energy use, waste management, recycling, and sustainability.
Wayne Moore, Operations Director of Sunseeker International comments: “At Sunseeker, we have always recognised our responsibilities to the environment, right from when we built our first boat yard, ensuring we protected the nearby area which contains nature reserves and conservation areas.”
He added: “Very few companies in the Marine Sector have achieved this award which demonstrates Sunseeker’s continued commitment to protecting the environment, preventing pollution and improving our environmental performance. I want to congratulate our operations team who led the way in helping us to achieve this prestigious green accreditation.”
In order to gain the standard, Sunseeker carried out a thorough investigation into every aspect of its business, and quickly took action to make the necessary changes.
Within six months of the review, waste had been reduced by 50% and is on target to continue to cut the amount further by the end of 2012. It has also invested in smart control systems, water saving devices and energy efficient lighting to reduce the impact on the environment.
Sunseeker yachts are continually improved to reduce their impact on the environment, with reduced fuel consumption and noise pollution. New manufacturing techniques have also enabled the company to reduce its carbon footprint.
The lead auditor, Paul Attrell, noted: “The team responsible have effectively communicated the requirements across this geographically and material diverse organisation and have enthused local staff to monitor and direct operational controls at each site, supported by competent audit procedures.”
The operations director at ISOQAR, Steve Stubley, has also offered his congratulations. He said: “Every element checked conformed to its standards, which is a superb achievement that the staff should be proud of.”
