This year’s 23rd edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is hosted by the emerald waters of Porto Cervo in Sardinia, providing a week of amazing sailing races, which every year puts the world’s most spectacular yachts in a direct competition. Running from 3rd to 8th September, scenic surroundings of Porto Cervo represents a battleground for a fleet of 34 yachts, varying in sizes from 18 up to 66 meters, and coming from 14 different world’s countries.
The Esimit Sailing Team is eager to achieve yet another good result in this season. Namely, they set a new course record at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, smashed the Monaco – Porto Cervo world record (organised under the initiative of the Wally shipyard, in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda) and took line honours at the Palermo – Monte Carlo regatta.
“After setting a new world sailing record at Monaco – Porto Cervo course a week ago, the crew took their time to adjust sailing yacht Esimit Europa 2 according to specifics of sailing at the costal races. We have carefully checked enlisted courses and weather forecast for the upcoming week to prepare appropriate tactics. The entire crew is aware of the fact that we are competing against the best yachts in the world. In any case, we will go after another good result”, stated Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project.
The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is a series of daily races, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the International Maxi Association. The coastal races (5 races chosen out of 36 routes ranging in distance from 12 to 68 nautical miles) will take place over five days, between 3rd and 8th September. Winners of each class will be awarded on the last day, at the prize giving ceremony.
The Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered in Cyprus, a member of Yacht Club de Monaco, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from 7 different European countries. It is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and endorsed by Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament. Its main sponsor is the global energy company Gazprom, while BMW is the official partner.
