The Giraglia Rolex Cup saw Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, and Dr Andrea Castronovo, president of the BMW Group Central Eastern Europe initiate a long-term partnership. By signing the agreement, BMW is becoming an official partner of the Esimit Europa project, which is represented by the 100ft superyacht Esimit Europa 2, one of the fastest as well as technologically most advanced sailing yachts in the world.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht wrote one of the most successful stories in the history of sailing on the foundations of innovation, technological perfection and competitive spirit. The symbol of excellence is now accompanied by BMW, the number one premium car manufacturer in the world with its rich heritage in high-performance yachting. Both partners share long-term ambitions in the Esimit Europa project.

Innovation and technological perfection are at the centre of BMW’s philosophy and all its commitments and involvements. As a partner of renowned regattas and sailing clubs, as well as being organiser of the BMW Sailing Cup and BMW Sail Racing Academy, BMW is deeply involved in international sailing.
“BMW is the official partner of the Esimit Europa project, with the partnership agreed on a long-term basis. The BMW logo will be visible on the boom and on a forestay flag. In addition, as a car fleet partner the company provides BMW cars to Esimit Europa. As a project, it symbolises the European way of thinking, innovation and team spirit, as well as endorsing the “European Energy” concept. As such, it is excellently suited to the BMW Yachtsport strategy. Esimit Europa and BMW will also run joint customer events during the Giraglia Rolex Cup, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Bernetti Lomardini Cup and Barcolana,” added Dr Andrea Castronovo, president of the BMW Group Central Eastern Europe.
The Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered on Cyprus, a member of Yacht Club de Monaco, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from 7 various European countries. It is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso. Its main sponsor is the global energy company Gazprom, while the BMW joins the project as the official partner.
