The European Institute of Yacht Design, the professional organisation in Europe promoting the discipline and strategic value of yacht design, is delighted to announce that they have been invited to present the opening keynote at the 2014 SuperyachtDESIGN Week. The event will be held at the Chelsea Design Centre in London, running on Tuesday, June 24.
Yacht design is more than streamline forms and sleek lines. Yacht design is about design thinking, creative problem solving and an effective use of materials and technology.
Yacht design is driven by a practical concern for technical processes, manufacture requirements, nautical materials and maritime regulations. It identifies the needs of clients and the market, and translates them into smart, human-centred and sustainable products. Moreover, yacht design is a powerful tool to create and transmit brand values in the maritime industry.
According to the European Commission, “there is general political agreement in Europe that all forms of innovation need to be supported to ensure competitiveness, prosperity and well-being. Design is increasingly recognized as a key discipline and activity to bring ideas to the market, transforming them into user-friendly and appealing products or services. Though still often associated solely with aesthetics, the application of design is much broader. A more systematic use of design as a tool for user-centred and market-driven innovation in all sectors of the economy, complementary to R&D, would improve European competitiveness. Analyses of the contribution of design show that companies that strategically invest in design tend to be more profitable and grow faster.”
It is for this very reason that the European Institute of Yacht Design has been invited to present the opening keynote at the 2014 SuperyachtDESIGN Week on Tuesday 24th June. This premier event held at the Chelsea Design Centre in London brings together each year the leaders in the field of superyacht design, building and refit. Some of the world’s most important yacht builders, designers, innovators and suppliers will discuss during 3 days about the development of the yacht industry and its future challenges and opportunities.
The presentation of the European Institute of Yacht Design will be delivered by Tatjana Janine Schiele and Ernesto Ortiz Rincon, the Institute’s Communications and Strategic Planning Director, respectively. They will focus their discussion on the key role of yacht designers in cross-functional teams during both design and construction processes, and how the European Institute of Yacht Design recognises and promotes the potential of yacht design as a powerful differentiator for the whole maritime industry.
