Where is the best place to go for a family yacht charter? Wherever you want!
“I’m a firm believer that the crew is one of the most important factors on a yacht vacation, and even more so for a family charter.”
The flexibility you get with a yachting vacation is one of the many reasons chartering a yacht makes for such a great family holiday. Every day can be a different location, a different adventure…and even a different beach!
While a yachting vacation would be wonderful anywhere, I think a special mention goes to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, and the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas. The BVIs is a super-fun destination with a laid back atmosphere, short sailing distances, and an abundance of good anchorages. There’s also beautiful beaches, great snorkeling and diving, plenty of entertainment ashore, and a good selection of yachts for all budgets. The Exuma Islands consist of hundreds of tiny islands with almost no development where you can truly get away from it all. It goes without saying that the Exuma Islands are best seen from a private yacht (of course), and it’s one of the few places with very few restrictions on jet skis.
In the Mediterranean, my pick would be Greece. No matter what the weather, there is always somewhere nice to go. The stunning scenery, mouth-watering food, and ancient history and culture mean Greece has a lot to offer, but I think the best thing is the people. The Greeks famously love children and seem to really enjoy when families visit their country. With a warm, welcoming feel, especially if you have small children, Greece is truly a beautiful country well worth a visit.
Just as important as where to go and which yacht to charter, is the yacht crew. I’m a firm believer that the crew is one of the most important factors on a yacht vacation, and even more so for a family charter. It’s important that you charter a yacht that is family friendly, especially if your children are quite young.
Yachts that are more geared towards family holidays have crew that take great care in keeping the younger members of the family entertained with a variety of family-fun ideas like decorating the cabins like a pirates den, having treasure hunts on local beaches, hosting dress-up theme dinners, baking cupcakes with the yacht’s chef, or just by spending the day playing with the yacht’s water toys…all of this while Mom and Dad catch up on a favorite book, enjoy a romantic meal, or just relax without having to worry about what to do with the kids, all the while creating long-lasting family memories.
Families with older children may enjoy long gourmet lunches and dinners, as well as quality time together with no one else around. Or, half the group can go paddle boarding and play on the water all day, while the other half lies around and reads a book. Because of the personalized service the yacht crew provides, they can organize the day to meet your fun-filled desires so you literally don’t have to think of what to do next. Have it however you like, because everything is at your fingertips.
