Feadship’s latest design concept superyacht DUNES will be debuted at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show featuring flowing lines from Studio de Voogt which perfectly reflect the concept’s name. The concept is at the forefront of Feadship’s net-zero sustainability goals and showcases how innovative exterior design can capture wind and solar energy almost invisibly and reduce energy consumption.
Feadship began presenting concept designs in 2006 to drive research and design discussion and explore the next generation of owners based on feedback, brainstorming, and technology research. DUNES represents Feadship’s twelfth concept and includes passive energy reduction innovations such as large overhangs that shade windows and reduce cooling requirements, next generation storage batteries, non-teak decks and revolutionary fuel cell technology.
Studio De Voogt was inspired by shapes created by nature; drifting snow, water and sand. Referencing the ever-changing shape of sand dunes gave the designers inspiration for the yacht’s flowing lines. The result delivers adaptable, multi-purpose spaces, endless views, and a mix of open-plan areas and cosy, intimate spaces – offering the lifestyle desired by yacht owners.
Teak decks have been replaced with shimmering surfaces made from millions of tiny glass or stone chips sealed in a transparent resin. The deck layout offers alternate circulation routes around the yacht as well as pop-up seating and entertaining areas including two pools, plus alfresco lounges conceived as islands clad in sustainable maple wood.
The six guest staterooms are suitably placed in proximity to where guests will spend most of their time such as the pool deck, dining, and spa areas. The bridge has been hidden – like the command centre on previous concept PURE – offering the owner’s a private deck with the best views.
Unlike many futuristic renderings, Feadship Concept designs can be built. So much so, a prospective owner could begin design discussions tomorrow! Construction will use a ‘low impact’ process to create a steel hull and aluminium/wood superstructure that produces 50-70% less CO2.
Superyacht DUNES features a breakthrough, high efficiency electric propulsion system from ABB called Dynafin™ unveiled last May. Onboard electrical power will be generated from equally revolutionary solid oxide fuel cells that use green methanol as a reaction agent.
Designers Thijs Orth, Tanno Weeda together with specialist Bram Jongepier will be available at the Feadship stand at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show to explain the technologies and explore the fresh design with visitors. For those unable to attend, we look forward to bringing you more information soon and in the meantime, check out our listings of Feadship yachts available for charter.
