To follow the progress of the yachts under construction, the Italian luxury yacht builder, Columbus Yachts, has installed high-performance fisheye cameras in each of its sheds. One fisheye was installed in the shed of the new Columbus Sport Hybrid 40m yacht currently in build at the yard, with interior design by Hot Lab.
Fisheye cameras are equipped with an ultra wide-angle lens (180°) that produce strong visual distortion intended to create a wide panoramic image, ideal for taking picture of the entire new build setting. In addition to providing owners, who may wish to be kept informed about the daily status of the build, an accurate snapshot of what is happening, the fisheye enables technical management to produce a video of the entire build process, for in-house records and as a memento for owners.
Mr. Pino Palumbo, the GM of the superyacht division Columbus Yachts, said that while the individual pictures are not particularly exciting, the resulting video is remarkable since captures the evolution of each yacht as if by magic.
Columbus Yachts, known for their innovative and environmentally friendly projects, has even placed an emphasis on communications and personal relations. The family run yard, part of the Palumbo Group with facilities in Naples, Messina and Malta, has been in the maritime business for over 45 years and is currently managed by the third generation.
