Videoworks, the company behind the entertainment and domotic systems aboard cutting edge 35m/115ft sailing yacht SATISFACTION, has provided insight into the technology and choices throughout the development process that has resulted in this luxurious high-performance yacht.
S/Y SATISFACTION is the first yacht in the SW105 mini-series and was designed for an Owner who requested ‘house-like ergonomics’ in the design in addition to excellent cruising capability.
While Farr Yacht Design created her naval architecture, Nauta Design was in charge of the interior concept and the brief called for an integrated system for the audio-visual and domotic needs of the Owner and guests.
One of the features different to most superyachts is a centralised rack system that creates more efficient use of space by avoiding the placement of localised racks throughout the yacht.
As a result, the guest cabins only contain speakers and TV screens, ensuring that the crew do not need access to the cabin should any maintenance be required.
The Owner requested that top quality audio brands be used throughout S/Y SATISFACTION, and as a result, the interior is furnished with Bowers & Wilkins B&W CCM 382 speakers while outside the audio systems are ready for parties and all weather conditions with the waterproof Sonance VP65R-XT speakers.
Videoworks has also implemented an HDBaseT video distribution system that is a noticeable improvement over HDMI cables, the industry standard for AV signal transmission but which only have a maximum distribution range of 15m/49ft. Onboard SATISFACTION, full HD digital video, audio, Ethernet, and various control signals can be transmitted through a single LAN cable and converted back into HDMI by each TV set through a low-profile receiver.
The wireless LAN controller also produces global Wi-Fi coverage and management, and wireless bottlenecks are avoided through the use of multigigabit Cisco Catalyst switches that support networking devices.
In the crew mess, there is a 4K Aquavision TV screen with a mirrored surface. The first waterproof TV was created by Aquavision in 1997 and they have since been designed for work environments such as galleys.
iPad tablets manage all AV and domotic controls for lighting, curtains, blinds and air conditioning, and guests can change their environment through customisable touch commands.
Lastly, Owners and crew can monitor essential information such as charting, CCTV or weather forecasting on personal devices using Videoworks’ MyInfo system, ensuring better security and more time to react to a situation, as well as to prepare and change plans based on the weather at the upcoming destination.
Videoworks Owner Mauro Pellegrini said of the project:
“We are very proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Southern Wind on this project. Southern wind is a prestigious brand that combines the best styling with the most updated technology in the sailing yacht world. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the management and technicians of the company with whom we have had the privilege of collaborating onboard this outstanding yacht.”
Sailing yacht SATISFACTION from South African shipyard Southern Wind was joined by sistership KIBOKO TRES in October 2018, and a third SW105 hull is due for launch before the end of the year.
