The prestigious New Zealand superyacht manufacturer, McMullen & Wing, has released fresh details of their 50m luxury expedition motor yacht ‘yard number 1016′. Formerly known as Big Star, superyacht ‘yard number 1016′ is presently in build.

Clearly continuing McMullen & Wing’s reputation for building some of the world’s most capable luxury yachts, the new 50m ‘yard number 1016′ yacht project is a true ocean adventurer, commissioned by a buyer seeking to explore the world in comfort and security.
The yacht, still identified publically only by its yard number 1016, is a 50m long range displacement motoryacht, featuring naval architecture, exterior styling and interior design by Gregory C Marshall Naval Architects, together with McMullen & Wing’s substantial in-house design team.
The new ‘yard number 1016′ superyacht project is a clear evolution of the same team’s much admired 45m charter yacht BIG FISH design. In styling, BIG FISH inspired the yachting world with her combination of classical but muscular proportion, striking architectural lines and extensive full height glazing, wrapped around a light, contemporary, relaxed interior. In her expedition credentials, BIG FISH set new standards of capability: exploring the true extremes of the world’s oceans in comfort, confidence and reliability.
The new ‘yard number 1016′ yacht, which will be delivered in early 2016, combines that ocean capability with a very close relationship to the ocean. The lowered aft cockpit is a protected area for fishing and lounging, closely connected to the expansive aft deck whilst directly in touch with the water’s surface. An extensive fleet of tenders and toys will provide for every activity.
The contemporary interior, also designed by Gregory C Marshall Naval Architects, will accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 cabins and will showcase natural materials in a relaxed modern ambience. Light, airy interior spaces flow seamlessly onto extensive decks on all levels. Bulwark balconies allow the floor-to-ceiling glazed doors from the dining space to frame a spectacular vista, whilst also providing the ultimate sunbathing location, suspended over the water. The breathtaking owners’ suite, on the bridge deck aft, opens onto its own private aft deck. A symphony of light and space, the owners’ suite is a haven of calm and relaxation.
Completely custom, and fashioned entirely by McMullen & Wing’s in-house team of craftsmen, the construction of this new yacht is a truly personal creative experience for the owner. A highly international team of professionals from across the globe assemble regularly to brief the owner on progress and contribute to each stage of the decision making process. As the yacht takes shape in the shipyard, the focus moves more and more from paper and computers to physical reality. Along the journey, the owner plans to take advantage of the opportunity of these visits to experience some of the treasures of beautiful New Zealand. On handover, scheduled for early 2016, the yacht will begin her world adventure in the pristine waters of Auckland, then on to the stunning beauty of the South Pacific before heading out to explore the world.
