67m sailing yacht Hetairos (ex Project Panamax), built by Baltic Yachts and launched in July is at the front of the 4th Superyacht Regatta – Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup, which started from Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Monday, November 21. Hetairos superyacht was co-designed by Dykstra & Partners Naval Architects and Reichel Pugh Yacht Design.
Baltic super yacht Hetairos had already sailed 1096 miles by the 09:43am Thursday morning update, opening up a lead of 235 miles in less than three days on the chasing fleet led by Peter Harrison’s 35m Farr-designed sailing yacht Sojana.
This year´s transatlantic event is hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and the International Maxi Association. YCCS is currently finishing its new Clubhouse in Virgin Gorda, set to complement the Club´s existing superyacht marina on the island.
Racing started on Monday in 10 to 12 knots of north north-easterly breeze and only the Wally 107 sailing yacht Kenora prefered to head south of the Island of Tenerife while the remainder of the fleet left the island to port.
The second largest yacht in the fleet, the Dubois designed 50m yacht Zefira, is in fifth place 482 miles behind Hetairos superyacht. The remainder of the fleet consists of two Wally yachts (30.55m Indio and 30.44m Kenora), two Swan yachts (the Swan 80 Emma and the Swan 82 Grey Goose of RORC); the Farr 35m sailing yacht Sojana and the 20.07m X-Yachts Karuba 5.
The Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous is held at the YCCS clubhouse and marina in Virgin Gorda from the 16-20th March 2012.
