The Green Blue (TGB), the environmental initiative of the Royal Yachting Association as well as the British Marine Federation congratulated the MDL‘s Port Hamble Marina in Hampshire, UK for completing the TGB Marine Toolkit. This is an online self-assessment toolkit that helps marine organisations identify and action environmental improvements.
Jane Swan, TGB Project Manager and Dan Reading, TGB Sustainability Officer, presented Colin Jefferies, Marina Manager of Port Hamble (MDL) and Michelle Hitchcock, Head of Business Development with a Green Blue Marine Toolkit Certificate at the PSP Southampton Boat Show and commented: “We have presented a certificate to Port Hamble to recognise the positive steps they have taken to make their marina more sustainable and in particular by engaging and educating their berth holders.”
MDL already implements a clear environmental policy across all its sites, covering comprehensive waste management and recycling facilities to purchasing 100% renewable energy. Port Hamble, in particular has shown real commitment to sustainability with a ‘zero to landfill’ approach; and actively encourages its berth holders to do their bit by requiring the use of groundsheets to catch waste during seasonal maintenance and by providing fuel collars and bilge socks to prevent oil and fuel spills when refuelling and from bilge water.
Receiving the certificate Colin Jefferies said: “We’re delighted to be recognised by The Green Blue for the work we have done to date. We don’t plan to rest on our laurels and we’re looking forward to seeing how we can make use of renewable energy and water saving technologies in particular to make us even more sustainable and efficient going forwards.”
