The latest sailing yacht nominated for the eagerly awaited International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2013 is the 108-foot Simba yacht. With naval architecture as well as styling by award-winning Hoek Design, superyacht Simba is a magnificent classic sloop, built by the prestigious Turkish shipyard, Proteksan Turquoise. Simba will compete for the ‘Sailing Yacht 25-40 metres’ Award.
The classic sheer, bow and stern overhang are proportionate to Simba yacht’s size. A moderate freeboard, classically styled deckhouses, cockpit and skylights together create a timeless atmosphere both outside and inside. The Simba superyacht is designed with a high righting moment as a performance oriented sloop and will participate in Spirit of Tradition Races. Therefore, her performance was extensively optimized using performance design tools.
The interior layout of Hoek designed sailing yacht Simba shows a full beam aft owners cabin, three guest cabins, a lower saloon, social main deckhouse as well as an aft deckhouse which is the primary navigation station. The crew accommodation is completely separated with double crew cabins, crew mess, galley and a separate crew deck exit. The interior styling was also completed by Hoek Design and showcases raised and fielded paneling combined with leather paneling above the wainscot level.
Luxury yacht Simba is designed with privacy in mind so guests and crew are separated where needed and necessary. The aft cockpit is the sailing center of the yacht where all winches, navigation and helm station are located. The center cockpit is the social hub of the yacht and incorporates a large outside dining table sheltered by a fixed bimini. There is ample storage on deck for tenders and other equipment.
Superyacht Simba can carry full main and Genoa up to 17-18 knots of True wind. The light air performance is also good due to low wetted surface area. With her poured lead keel, spade rudder, high aspect ratio sail plan and large sail area to displacement ratio she will be a promising yacht on the race course.
This Friday, 1st March, is the final deadline for applications to the IY&A Awards 2013. It is advised to mail awards@design-et-al.co.uk to reserve space on the shortlist.
