Nestled in the lovely Caribbean yacht charter location – St Thomas, the IGY Marinas-managed Yacht Haven Grande Marina is honored to once again host the 137-foot schooner Roseway. Luxury sailing yacht Roseway is in the marina as part of the World Ocean School organization’s mission to provide challenging educational programs for children in the US Virgin Islands.
Measuring 42 meters in length, superyacht Roseway is a classic twin-masted schooner, originally developed by John F James in 1925 as a private fishing yacht. She was purchased by the Boston Pilot’s Association in 1941, and was honored for her exemplary service during World War II. Roseway was the last pilot schooner serving in the U.S. when she was retired in 1973. In 1974, Roseway began service in the Maine windjammer fleet, and in 2002 she was donated to the World Ocean School.
Roseway yacht is one of the last Grand Banks fishing schooners built in Essex, one of only six original Grand Banks schooners, and the only schooner specifically designed to beat the Nova Scotians in the international fishing vessel races of the 1920s and 1930s. After 84 years of service, she is a registered U.S. National Historic Landmark.
