The New Zealand shipyard Integrated Marine Group (IMG) has recently completed refitting two projects: a 27m classic sailing yacht Giriz II, built in 1964 followed up by a refreshment job on the modern 60m motor yacht Elandess, built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2009.
“An added sense of purpose surfaces from our team when we work on older vessels,” said IMG Managing Director, Mark Wightman of the Giriz II refit. “They take real pride in restoring and preserving the unique character of these rare gems. When you reveal the end result it serves to remind us all why we chose this field of work.”
“She emerged after two months with a new paint job to the hull, decks and rigs, interior improvements, new electronics and many other improvements, but retaining the same charm that wooed the stars in the 1960s.”
At the other end of the spectrum 60m luxury yacht Elandess required a very different skill set when she underwent some fine tuning from the IMG trade team during her recent stay in New Zealand. During their time at the shipyard, the captain and crew celebrated their first anniversary since leaving Europe on a world circumnavigation.
