Christopher Seymour Designs is presently working on its new species of cruiser/explorer superyachts, the example of which is the 245-foot mega yacht Elementum concept. With its brutal appearance as well as outrageous features, the motor yacht Elementum concept holds some pretty strong numbers when compared to others.

Straight to the business end, the bow being one of the obvious features of the 245ft superyacht Elementum concept and thus making it an overall unique design is the talking point behind the concept. As the Elementum yacht concept’s main focus is to improve hydrodynamics in relation to hull efficiency as displacement length ratio and frictional resistance plays an increasing roll.

The hull form of the luxury yacht Elementum concept is currently a semi displacement format, coupled with chines, all of which will promote not only higher cruise speed, but the top speed as well. The hull’s longitudinal centre of gravity calculations are located just behind the amidships, and still forward of the engines. With this, the vessel also has a lower centre of gravity as the vessel is a low displacement configuration due to a smaller tonnage in the superstructure, this will then allow the bow to sit at a normal or reasonable height in the back section of a large wave when running with the swell.

The ride comfort of the 245ft motor yacht Elementum concept in a head sea is also improved compared to conventional vessels, as the bow now penetrates the waves, not needing to go up and over, thus allowing the vessel to hold a higher cruise speed without the pitch and roll.

The voluminous 245ft mega yacht Elementum concept also has flare, thus increased volume and spray chine incorporated in the bow section to allow the boat to still lift with the larger waves. All of these attributes gives the vessel great explorer qualities to allow the vessel to withstand harsh conditions most environments have to offer.

Elementum yacht concept also has some traditional features to show off as well, not only does it have the flare incorporated in the bow, and a stunning sheerline, but also boasts tumblehome in the stern section, which complements the open aft deck and pool area.

The superstructure design was a continuation of creative styling. The continuation of curves are in the superstructure fairings with hidden liferafts on either side, but with also the combination of robust square edged superstructure with reverse and forward sweeping windows which continued on with the boats overall unique appearance.

Side decks also weave their way through the superstructure which still allows the vessel to be practical for crew to have easy access to areas either forward to the helipad or aft to the back lounge areas. This practicality is also continued on the above decks for further access to the lounge and spa area on the following higher decks.

The superstructure also brought on another new challenge, it was all split levels. This did create a unique atmosphere of separate areas throughout the upper decks. But this unique setup was found to make the areas more exclusive and private, for either owner/guests wanting to enjoy a quite dining experience, or guests/owner could enjoy a simple drink with family and friends in the other lounge areas.

All decks levels were joined via a square staircase with a square elevator. There’s also a unique dining lounge area on the third deck that allows panoramic views of the location you just happen to be at… maybe the beautiful waters of the Great Barrier Reef, or the cold water of the Arctic.

Superyacht Elementum concept offers accommodation to up to 12 guests, including owner, providing them with 2 guests cabins, 3 VIP suites, with one offering its own balcony, and 1 owner’s suite offering the second balcony. The vessel will be operated by 14 crew, with their quarters located on the lower deck equipped with lounge, kitchen and mess area. There’s the usual toys, consisting multiple RIB tenders, underwater scooters, dive equipment, and helicopter on the fore deck if you prefer to come and leave via that.

At present, the Elementum yacht concept’s engine configuration is a diesel propulsion system, coupled to shaft drives. But a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system can be used to further the efficiency and green thinking of the vessel. The hull and superstructure will be of an aluminium construction, with composite curved fairings.
