The Mediterranean racing season will start in style at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2014 in just over two weeks. An amazing fleet of superyachts will be hosted by the chic Italy yacht charter destination – Porto Cervo in Sardinia, home of the prominent Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, for four days of exciting racing.
Set against Sardinia’s breathtaking coastline, the region offers idyllic sailing conditions that continue to attract a diverse range of cruisers and high performance yachts. To ensure fair and fast racing for all superyacht competitors, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s expert race committee have divided the fleet into classes based on the number of entries, the boats’ size, speed potential and performance characteristics.
Recently added to the line-up, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’ 30.5m superyacht Magic Carpet Cubed is the natural evolution of this experienced owners’ breed of yachts. Developed by Wally with naval architecture by Reichel Pugh, she is the second sailing yacht built to the WallyCento box rule class, resulting in a fast and seaworthy cruiser-racer that benefits from the latest performance technology.
Silver Sponsor Southern Wind is represented at the regatta by no less than six yachts who will compete in class as well as challenging for the coveted XII SWS Trophy, presented bi-annually at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, since 2008. Returning competitor 30.26m SW 100 superyacht Cape Arrow designed by Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yachts, is built to a very high specification offering excellent performance, comfort and elegance; SW 100 charter yacht Farewell, the DS version of this latter model, joins the competition with a highly motivated crew. SW 94 luxury yacht Windfall designed by Reichel Pugh and Nauta Yachts, will express the more performance oriented soul of the SW fleet, with veteran participant SW 78 yacht Whisper and newcomers 26.6m sailing yacht Feelin’ Good and 24.72m superyacht Grande Orazio – the first two units of the SW 82 project – completing the SW race fleet.
The new SW 102 superyacht Hevea will follow the regatta, offering guests of Southern Wind the unique opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of superyacht racing from the water.
The 46m performance superyacht Ganesha by Vitters, delivered in 2013, offers both comfortable cruising and the strong performance focus signature of a Dubois boat. Vitters are also represented by 33m luxury yacht Inouï, designed by Philippe Briand for an experienced owner who wanted to retain the comforts of his last yacht while augmenting the performance. With her striking green hull, Inouï is sure to make an impression on the start line.
Four days of competitive racing are complemented by a first-class social programme. Exclusive events for owners at the YCCS Clubhouse include the Loro Piana Owners’ Dinner and an elegant Embraer Executive Jets Owners’ Champagne Reception, as well as a Welcome Cocktail and fun-filled Pizza Party in the Piazza for all event participants sponsored by Sardinia Yacht Services and the famous Beach Party at trendy local night spot Phi Beach. After each day of racing, participants are invited to enjoy some after race refreshments in the regatta village courtesy of Pantaenius.
There are a limited number of berths remaining for late entries.
