Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority responsible for regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, has proudly announced that the Dubai Maritime Summit 2014 will start today, on Monday, October 27. The first-ever maritime event aims towards strengthening Dubai’s efforts to become a first-class international maritime hub, with particular focus on the latest worldwide industry developments. The summit will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Board.
The opening day of the summit will feature keynote messages coming from some of the world’s maritime industry leaders like H.E. Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al-Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the National Transport Authority; H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and the President of DMCA; Jo Espinoza-Ferrey, Director, International Maritime Organization (IMO); Philipe Donche-Gay, Chairman, International Association of Classifications Societies (IACS); Dr Phillip Belcher, Marine Director of INTERTANKO and Doug Barrow, Chief Executive, Maritime London.
The summit will discuss new developments and issues facing the international maritime industry, as well as other issues influencing the evolution of the global maritime sector—particularly focusing on the issue of maritime clustering. The pioneering event will also throw the spotlight on the current efforts in fortifying Dubai’s position as a leading maritime hub based on its implementations of an integrated strategy that includes the upgrading of components, the modernization of infrastructure, the enhancement of operations & logistics and the diversification of investment opportunities. The strategy is expected to enhance the competitive advantage of Dubai’s maritime segment across regional and international platforms.
Dubai Maritime Summit aims to attract broad participation from senior government officials, prominent regional & international experts, decision-makers, operators, ship owners and officials of public & private companies operating in Dubai’s maritime sector, the region and the rest of the world. The summit looks towards discussing the most prominent issues and the latest current developments in the domestic and international maritime arena.
