As many as 60 boats were constructed and launched within one day during the inaugural Vripack Boat Building Day, held on June 22, 2013. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, grandparents and neighborhood friends, some 300 people learned that boating is simply fun.
“We are a big believer in the force of social activities and the concept of our Boat Building Day proved to be the perfect example”, say Vripack‘s Bart Bouwhuis and Marnix Hoekstra. “The Boat Building Day is a family oriented event with the aim to inspire the next generation and playfully showcase how rewarding it is to built boats and go boating.”
“During the last school year 15 year old students from a local Technasium developed both the wooden building kit and the event under our guidance and as you can see they did outstanding. We had city Dad’s calling us telling that they wanted to give their 6 year old sons a birthday present they would never forget. And now here they are, stitching and glueing away and pimping the boat afterwards before taking part in the rowing contest.”
As the pictures show, the Boat Building day was a great success with no less than 60 colorful boats bobbing on the waters of the city lake ‘Sneekermeer’.
