The International Superyacht Society (ISS), a prominent committee made up of the most famous names in the yachting sector worldwide, has handed over their Leadership Award 2013 to Giancarlo Ragnetti, CEO of the Perini Navi Group.
The award is given yearly to those who distinguish themselves in the Superyacht sector for professionalism and competence. It was assigned during the commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of ISS Awards in a gala ceremony held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In his acceptance speech Giancarlo Ragnetti thanked everyone who helped him reach this important milestone in his 30 year long career in Perini and said, “I am here this evening after a long and wonderful voyage taken with you and above all with the whole extended Perini Navi family. I dedicate this award to them and feel that I share the merits with them.”
Biography of Giancarlo Ragnetti
Born in 1946, Giancarlo Ragnetti graduated from the University of Naples with a degree in Naval and Mechanical Engineering. He started his career working in the area of construction of commercial ships in Ancona, a city which is in the heart of eastern Italy‘s shipbuilding district.
His collaboration with Fabio Perini began in the 70’s when the Italian entrepreneur commissioned the construction of a 22m sailing yacht. Since then Ragnetti has always been at Perini’s side, creating and developing the Perini Navi team and the Brand, leading the company as its CEO and Managing Director. He helmed its expansion as it became the Perini Navi Group, and built the Group into what is today considered one of the hallmarks in the yachting industry.
Ragnetti counts amongst his responsibilities the creation of the management team and the development of the Group’s infrastructures, today articulated on a global scale with facilities in Viareggio and La Spezia in Italy, and Istanbul in Turkey. He has led the Perini team through the builds of more than 55 yachts, with the amazing success of the 7 boat 46/48 meter series in the 90s followed by the ten boat 56‐meter series in 2000s, capped by charter yacht Maltese Falcon, the hi performance and highly successful Briand designed charter yacht P2 and finally their most recent construction: the 73‐meter Vitruvius mega yacht GRACE E.
Let’s not forget that Giancarlo has been front and Center in the Sailing yacht industry from the time in 1983 when the very first Perini at 131 feet was considered gargantuan, all the way to the present when 186 footers are sold in series of ten vessels and then followed by a replacement series at 200 feet! He has seen the birth and the evolution of the Captive winch, the first and probably the 100th plus sailing yacht with a fly bridge, he has seen the Bucket Regattas and Super‐Yacht cups go from 5 and 6 boats participating to as many as 46 boats on the starting line!
Perhaps his greatest quality is the relationships and trust he developed with the Owners of Perini Navis, consider the fact that during his tenure Perini has signed 56 contracts and in fact of those 56, there have been 19 Owners who have had 2 Perinis and 2 who came back for 3! The well‐known and incredible sense of “family” that pervades throughout the world of Perini Navi has to be attributed in a large part to Giancarlo’s leadership.
