The gathering will be held on the Honorable William Wall, Manhattan Sailing Club’s floating clubhouse which is docked on the south side of North Cove in front of the World Financial Center in Battery Park City. Admission is free but RSVP is required because of limited space.
Giovanni Soldini is one of the world’s greatest ocean racers. He has won the single-handed Round the World Race as well as many trans-Atlantic and other major events.
The New York to San Francisco sailing record celebrates the route taken by great clipper ships during the California gold rush. It starts in New York City, goes down South America, around Cape Horn and then back up the West Coast to San Francisco. The record of 89 days and 8 hours was set by the Flying Cloud in 1854 and not broken until 1989.
