Italianyachtmasters, the association of Italian Captains launched in March 2013, is delighted to announce the 2nd annual ‘Captain’s Day’. The event is to be hosted by the Yacht Club Marina di Loano, a lovely Italy yacht holiday destination, on October 13, 2014.
It has been a year rich of events since the first Captain’s day, held in October 2013 in the magnificent Yacht Club Marina of Loano – the headquarters of the Italianyachtmasters association. The number of Superyacht Captains joining the association has doubled over the course of its second year, despite the high standards and tough requisites that need to be met. Moreover, Italianyachtmasters has expanded in order to welcome First Mates into its realm.
During the past year, members had the opportunity to partake in a number workshops organised to provide Superyacht Captains with the opportunity to improve their knowledge on a whole range of subjects, including:
Navimeteo, held at YCML: advance meteorology course.
Martec, held at YCML: fire detection systems course.
H2O, held at YCML: code course MLC2006
DN-GL, held at the Academy in Porto Mirabello: PSC course
Highly productive seminaries have also been organised during the past year, with the intention of creating and strengthening synergies between the major players of the yachting sector; in particular:
Fraser Yacht and Italian Yacht Master
Yacht Zoo and Italian Yacht Master
Vship and Italian Yacht Master
Burgess and Italian Yacht Master
Italianyachtmasters was invited to a number of events, including: MYS 2013, Amsterdam GF 2013, Yare 2013 – at the conference of Large Ports of the Riviera, and The Great Nautica of Argentario, where it represented the Italian Yacht Master category.
The First Mates group has produced a list of courses regarding the development of professionalism on board, and which will form part of the PTP Navigo Regione Toscana Super Yacht Academy Program – of which Italianyachtmasters is a partner.
Institutional meetings have also taken place with Government representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to improve bureaucratic issues, which only too often generate serious obstacles for the profession.
Last but not least, the Italianyachtmasters association has been investing in young students of the Nautical Institute in Tuscany and, for the first time, and thanks to the willingness of our captains, they had the opportunity to spend some time on board superyachts, completing short internships, thus gaining first-hand experience of the opportunities this profession has to offer.
“Italianyachtmasters rests on the thirty-year wealth of experience of its board and is driven by the desire to constantly improve the competence of its members, helping them to become leaders in this profession” – declared Gino Battaglia – member of the board of Directors – “We are looking forward to meeting the majors representative of the international yachting industry, to share with them our thoughts, ideas and all the contents of our activities during the 2nd Captain’s Day meeting that will be held on the 13th October in the Yacht Club Marina of Loano”.
