Nestled in Northern Cyprus, the luxury Mediterranean yacht charter destination Karpaz Gate Marina has announced that it will continue to welcome participants of the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) in upcoming years, after featuring as a popular part of the program for the third time.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the EMYR now provides the opportunity for sailors to explore a large part of the relatively undiscovered TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) coastline thanks to the involvement of the new 5 Gold Anchor-rated marina on the Karpaz peninsula. The boats stopped at Kyrenia in June before moving up the coast to visit Karpaz Gate Marina, the first modern marina in Northern Cyprus, and then sailing on to Haifa Harbour in Israel.
EMYR Committee Member Hasan Kaçmaz said: “The main aim of the EMYR rally is to support the promotion of TRNC yachting tourism and we would therefore wish to keep Karpaz Gate Marina in the program for as long as the rally is welcomed there. The marina is so well built with such good and efficient facilities.
“The 2014 rally was a success, with several new stops including Marmara Island, Çanakkale Marina, Iasos Marina and Kumkuyu Marina.”
The visit of the EMYR to Karpaz Gate Marina coincided with the venue’s Saturday night Season Opening Party, with rally participants joining hundreds of visitors and special guests for cocktails, food and entertainment. The marina also hosted the EMYR annual flags ceremony and presented special plaques on the promenade, with the participants then able to spend the day on Sunday enjoying the on-site facilities or exploring the Karpaz region to complete the Northern Cyprus leg of the rally before then heading to Israel.
Karpaz Gate Marina Owner’s Representative Liza Singer said: “It is very important to us to promote the whole of the TRNC and introduce as many visitors as possible to the region. As Karpaz Gate Marina is an official Port of Entry, we relish the chance to be involved in the EMYR and look forward to many more years of welcoming the participants to our marina.”
Starting in Istanbul before covering the Turkish coastline, the 2014 rally stopped at 25 ports and three countries during the 57-day voyage and featured a great mix of nationalities, including participants from Great Britain, the USA, Germany, France and Turkey.
