The number of superyachts visiting luxury 5 Gold Anchor-rated Karpaz Gate Marina has increased during an important 2013 season. The excellent berthing as well as on-shore facilities, superior technical services and range of leisure options at the unique Northern Cyprus venue are drawing attention of a variety of sizable yachts as word spreads about the marina’s ability to cater for larger vessels.
Notable visiting yachts so far this season include a Sunseeker Predator 130 yacht, a 23m steel expedition yacht, a Shipman 63, a San Lorenzo 70, a 28m Benetti and a 25m Princess.
Harbour Master Deniz Akaltan said: “This marina was specifically designed with superyachts and larger vessels in mind so we have everything in place to cater for these boats. From technical services and equipment to experienced and helpful staff, Karpaz Gate Marina is a great location for boats as an extended base or as a stop during a cruise of the region.”
Several boat owners have taken advantage of the marina’s substantial 300-ton travel lift to allow technical jobs to be carried out, with those on Karpaz Gate Marina’s Lucky 13 contract benefitting from a free lift out and launch back, plus free hull cleaning and sanding and two coats of anti-fouling.
Other sailors are discovering the stunning location on the Karpaz Peninsula as a perfect stop during a cruise in the region, while a number of owners from ports across the world are using the marina as a tax-free, sheltered and secure base for an extended stay.
Despite only opening in 2011, the 300-berth marina is rapidly achieving recognition as one of the Eastern Mediterranean’s premier superyacht destinations. A landmark 2013 season was recently crowned with the award of the top Gold Anchor Award Scheme status by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) – the measure of marina excellence.
With the capability to accommodate vessels up to 55m, Karpaz Gate Marina has extensive technical services, experienced marine engineers and all the facilities necessary to cater for superyachts. Its finger mooring system is suitable for boats up to 12 metres, with Mediterranean-style mooring for vessels from 12 metres LOA and alongside or stern-to mooring facilities for superyachts. Berth services include power and drinking water to all berths, high speed Wi-Fi and TV connection. There is also 24/7 CCTV and security personnel.
The attractive leisure options on offer are also proving irresistible, with the new beach club and 33m infinity pool adding to the on-shore entertainment on offer, including Hemingway’s Resto-Bar, fitness centre, a variety of water sports and shopping facilities. Concierge services are also available.
Karpaz Gate Marina is the first modern marina in Northern Cyprus and boasts an experienced marina team with multi-lingual and helpful staff to assist visitors. As another incentive for yachts sailing to Northern Cyprus for the first time, Karpaz Gate Marina is a recognised port of entry.
The marina and yard facilities at Karpaz Gate Marina are operated by a single management company, enabling all facilities on water and ashore to be linked cost-effectively for the boat owner. Plus, the duty-free status at the marina provides savings on fuel, technical service and supplies.
