The Kestrel 106 sailing yacht is a new breed of superyacht designed for an exceptional onboard lifestyle. The world class semi-custom sailing superyacht Kestrel 106 has naval architecture and external styling by Ron Holland Design and is currently under construction at the Aganlar Boatyard in Bodrum Turkey. The first Kestrel 106 sailing yacht measuring 32.4m will be launched in the summer of 2011.
The design commission for the Kestrel 106 invited Ron Holland Design to incorporate their latest design experience into a large volume ocean cruising ketch that was capable of impressive sailing performance with a small crew.
Following classic lines, this new Kestrel design reflects a balance between traditional sailing yachts of the past, with design refinements that are influenced by the latest sailing technology. Underwater lines are refined for high sailing performance capabilities and large beam and superstructure volume allows an impressive level of interior space. Both on-deck and interior arrangements present amenities that are more related to much longer sailing yachts than Kestrel with her 94ft length on deck.
Aimed at both private ownership and charter capabilities, the first Kestrel 106 will present to the market a yacht that is comfortable and spacious, yet is easy to handle, an ocean cruiser capable of long distance voyaging or entertaining friends when day sailing around coastal waters.
The Kestrel 106 superyacht is inspired equally by the enjoyment of sailing and the pleasures of socialising afloat. This is to be an ideal cruising and entertaining yacht bringing together the advantages of sailing and motor yachts in a single beautiful vessel.
The superstructure and deck area of the S/Y Kestrel 106 is designed for a relaxed onboard lifestyle with a convertible cockpit. This is an adaptable space with sliding seating units for relaxing, dining and dancing. Below decks there is a spacious full beam master cabin, a large double VIP cabin and two further generous cabins, which can be specified as doubles or twins and can include additional pullman berths. This means the Kestrel 106 has the capacity to accommodate eight to ten guests onboard in significant space and comfort supported by up to four crew. The dining areas both inside and out can also comfortably seat ten guests.
Pace on this ketch is driven by 519m2 of sail area coupled with a highly efficient hull and keel shape below the waterline. The desire to blend vessel stability with the ability to travel at pace is reflected in the Kestrel design and dimensions so carefully composed by Ron Holland, who is known for exceptional design in racing yachts and mega yachts. This combined with a classical silhouette creates yacht that is blessed with a graceful and inviting lifestyle proposition.
The team behind Kestrel Superyachts recognise that to maximise the entertaining potential of a vessel and the enjoyment of all afloat a yacht needs to have the ability to perform under sail without frightening the non sailing guests while being a comfortable and welcoming home from home. Ron Holland comments that: “This yacht differs from our existing design work and presents to the sailing yacht market a unique concept that combines comfort and performance in a fresh new manner.”
Peter Cooke, who is the managing director of Kestrel Superyachts, describes the Kestrel 106 as “unique, the desired combination of ‘space, pace and grace’ in a single yacht is the culmination of almost three years of intense design work to develop a beautiful large sailing yacht which is also a warm and welcoming home, a delightful place to spend leisure time and which meets the aspirations of non sailors and sailors alike.”
Kestrel Superyachts managed by the Kestrel Syndicate, a group of Northern Irish and Scottish Businessmen and women who are passionate about the experience offered by sailing on a luxury yacht. They brought the team of designers, yard and superyacht specialists together to realise this vision and create the Kestrel 106.
