June 20, 2013, saw King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on board the Dykstra Naval Architects-designed charter yacht Stad Amsterdam. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander was present at the “Saamhorigheidsdag” of the Royal Navy, dedicated to the celebration of the 525th anniversary of the Dutch Navy. This day also marks the start of the joint event Sail / Navy Days Den Helder.
The event took place from June 20th to June 23rd and started with the anchoring of thirty large and just as many smaller sailing ships on the Roads of Texel in Den Helder. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander sailed on the historic sailing yacht ‘Stad Amsterdam’, along the anchored sailboats. Afterwards, the King attended the ‘Saamhorigheidsdag’ of navy personnel where 525 years of organized naval power were ceremonially commemorated.
Stad Amsterdam yacht was designed by Dykstra Naval Architects in 1999. She recently underwent and extensive maintenance program with the support of Dykstra Naval Architects.
Dykstra Naval Architects are currently working on the design of the 86 m Sail training Clipper for the Royal Navy of Oman. She is expected to launch at Damen Shipyard in Summer 2014.
