Lumotics Marine, the company specializing in the design, build, as well as installation of advanced lighting control solutions for luxury yachts, has been commissioned to deliver the bespoke lighting and cabin control solutions for one of the most noticeable superyachts afloat today – the 1979 53m classic yacht Elisabeth F by Feadship.
The owner’s requirements were very specific. As well as having the electronics and software to do the job, he wanted a particular design of button to complement polished 316 (jewellery grade) stainless steel wall mounted face plates (shown right). Lumotics took responsibility for sourcing the components required to build these units, created renderings of the proposed design for final approval by the client, and only once approval was received was the final product assembled. Yet this still took place within the tight deadline imposed. This was not a large project, but it was important to the owner, and the Lumotics team delivered it on time and to the exacting specification given.
From there the challenge was extended to the creation of a driver and control system for a lighting array running both coloured light rope and coloured fittings. The owner wanted this to be controlled via a custom iPad app as well as by a 4-inch Beijer touch screen. The Lumotics team decided that its powerful Mood Magic should act as the central interface. For just this initial function the Mood Magic would have provided far more capability than was actually required, but the installation of such a powerful universal controller with 20 individual outputs at this early stage left plenty of scope for expansion with minimal disruption as and when the lighting scheme develops over the course of the refit, and beyond.
Lumotics then designed a simple to use, customised iPad lighting control app for the owner and also re-created the same software layout and look on a Beijer touch-screen controller.
“Our role in projects like this is to supply the finishing touches that optimise lighting and cabin control systems to meet the exact needs of the owner,” said Pidge Scales of Lumotics Marine. “Off-the-shelf systems can never quite close the gap between ‘just fine most of the time’ and ‘perfect all the time’, but our technology and customised solutions provide the bridge between the two, without the need to create a fully customised lighting system from the ground up.”
In keeping with its reputation for delivering solutions in record time, the engineering and installation was completed just two weeks after the order was received.
