design et al are proud to announce the shortlist success of Luxury Projects in the 5th Annual International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015, with motor yacht Ornella (ex Jade Mary). Built by Leopard Yachts in Italy, with exterior design by Andrea Bacigalupo and interior design by Luxury Projects, superyacht Ornella will compete for the ‘Power Yacht Refit over 30 metres’ Award.
Appointed directly by the young Owner of the Ornella superyacht and thanks to his trust, Luxury Projects (LP) Team had a real chance to change the complete mood and style of the yacht during the whole refit process.
Design and use of innovative materials were the focus points that allowed LP to fulfill the Owner’s requests and refresh all the interiors of the Ornella yacht achieving soft and relaxing atmospheres to be lived in. Avoiding the standard shiny leathers generally used on side and front panels of an open-yacht’s main salon, LP Designers carried out research into different finishes. The final result was that custom-made wall papers were used for all the vertical panels in the Salon, but also in different tactile finishes in the staircase and the forward TV lounge. There is an amazing custom-made silky-bamboo soft carpet for all of the maindeck and the “big eye”, a silky plissé effect custom-made lamp, is the masterpiece of the salon. In the VIP cabin, the new concept of the headboards is the best expression of material and custom designed pieces covering the whole wall behind the bed.
The soft and warm colours of the exterior dominated the rest of the design; all intended to create a novel, sleek look for the yacht. As per the Owner’s request, the interior is largely white-creamy nuances with some little colours touches of beige/brown and old pink.
The refit gave the whole luxury yacht Ornella (ex Jade Mary) a new tactile finish from the use of differing textures to the leathers and fabrics, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. One of the major tasks for the Designers was to successfully marry the existing wood with the innovative aforementioned materials.
