The South Pacific charter grounds are set to become the next on-trend destination for luxury yachts after Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia will coordinate their superyacht procedures from August 2022.
All four countries have announced the removal of border restrictions which were put in place due to Covid-19, and from August 2022 visiting yachts can stay two years or more in each country without the need for the yacht to be imported. As such, it is possible for a luxury yacht to remain in the South Pacific indefinitely on a rotational basis, with closely aligned charter rules between the countries creating an ideal environment for yacht Owners to charter.
The South Pacific is a magnificent destination for holidays on the water: Fiji and Tahiti have stunning clear blue waters, lively lagoons and reefs, and golden and white sand beaches that make the perfect setting for dinner at sunset.
The most famous destination in Australia is the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays Islands, however Ningaloo Reef and the Kimberley Region are just as deserving of attention.
The Poor Knights Islands in New Zealand are a celebrated dive spot for the incredible biodiversity, with sites even suited to snorkelers and beginner divers. The yacht building and refit services available in New Zealand will ensure that long-term visitors can keep their vessels in top shape for continued cruising, or in preparation for the next charter season.
Fiji and Tahiti are best experienced on a cruise between May and October, while December to April is the best time for summer/autumn cruising in New Zealand and Australia. Key dates in New Zealand include:
- The Superyacht Gathering (Auckland, 23rd-25th November 2022)
- New Zealand Millennium Cup Superyacht Regatta (Bay of Islands, 13th-16th February 2022)
