Solent Refit has achieved a major milestone, with more than 50 satisfied refit clients, who have trusted their superyacht projects to the facility. Common ground for all these successfully completed luxury yacht projects is the economic benefit of working through a planned, cost effective and supervised refit in the UK, in a facility with a first class work ethic as well as high skill base.
Superyachts can further benefit from the normal tax relief expected by correctly registered and commercial vessels. The shipyard has gone from strength to strength and it is clear that the financial advantages outweigh the logistics and costs of making the passages to the South coast of the UK.
At this stage in early 2014, all refit projects are progressing well despite the weather that the UK has experienced recently, due to the fact that the yachts are all safely tucked up under cover in the 10,000 square metre refit halls.
Projects currently underway are ideal to show the diversity of skills available at Solent Refit. One refit requires more traditional joinery and shipwright skills with the replacement of the 3” thick oak planking and caulking on a square rigged tall ship, while others are in for a diversity of other works such as replating, repainting, engineering, an interior refit and one or two for commissioning later this Spring.
Allan Foot, a Director at Solent Refit, was quite to the point, “At Solent Refit we are offering an extremely cost effective solution to owners and captains, without compromise to the quality of work. Currently, we are working at capacity with many of our projects due for launch throughout this Spring – we believe it is vital to work closely with each client to ensure that their deadlines and expectations in terms of cost and timescale are met.”
An endorsement from Captain Mark Lumley from S/Y Montigne (Autumn 2013): “I would just like to say thank you to you and your team at Solent Refit for their fantastic effort to complete the work. It was not the easiest time lines and work required just got more and more, yet your team came up with a solution in house or through local contacts. Your team made it happen for us to meet our time schedule. The 5 year class survey should be ticked off soon. Thanks for all your help with that too. The boat looks amazing and had some great feedback from the FLIBS show. I just wonder what we could have achieved if we had more time. That’s life. If I am in the area and need work doing you will be the first person I will call.”
