Mangusta has announced that 54m/177ft motor yacht EL LEON has become the first ever Mangusta vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean, covering a distance of 4,800 nautical miles and making the crossing in six days.
Following her delivery last summer, M/Y EL LEON made her public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 and was well-received as the next generation of Fast Displacement superyachts from the Mangusta GranSport line from Alberto Mancini.
The hull was designed by Studio Ausonio and features cutting-edge solutions for a smoother journey and greater fuel efficiency: Combined with her 4-engine / 4-propeller drive with electric stabilizers, she is capable of a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles at her cruising speed of 12 knots.
After leaving the shipyard in Viareggio, Italy, M/Y EL LEON headed for Gibraltar on the 1st of December, completing this leg on the 4th of December and restocking and refuelling before continuing. After stopping at Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, she continues to make her way down to Cape Verde, completing one final restock and refuel before making the Atlantic crossing on the 11th of December. At 20:31 on the 17th of December, luxury yacht EL LEON has completed the journey and docks in the harbour at Bridgetown, Barbados.
Future Mangusta Gransport vessels will no doubt be commissioned for the spacious onboard layout as well as the cutting-edge engineering resulting in smooth ocean crossings.
